April 2023: Let's celebrate spring

Hi Everyone! Welcome to spring at long last! This is one of my favorite times of year when the daffodils and magnolias are bursting with life and something new is appearing, seemingly every minute. I find myself in a continuous state of inspiration and gratitude. Awake and alive in the new season. LOTS HAPPENING, ALL GOOD......SAVE THE DATES

On the travel front I'm getting ready to be with family, friends and the tulips in The Netherlands in a few weeks! And this trip will include a drive along the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. I love to plan travel around artistic inspiration and Holland and the Emerald Isle will certainly deliver. Stay tuned for the series to follow! This is always a busy season for my art business and all the places I will be exhibiting are listed again at the end of this letter. I do hope to see many of you at at least one event.

First, I'm thrilled to share that yesterday at the opening reception of the Wayne Art Center 2023 Regional Exhibition, I was awarded First Prize for my Imaginary Landscape painting, Picnic Spot at Seal Cove. I'm honored to be a part of this wonderful exhibition and deeply appreciative of the recognition. It's a special show that I hope you can visit, through April 29.

Picnic Spot at Seal Cove I'll be painting all day in the Aston Mills Open Studio on April 16th so if you have an interest in seeing how I create my imaginary landscapes, please join me. Most of our 30 artists will also be on hand (no pun intended)and The Art of Play exhibition can be viewed in our first floor Gallery. I'm also thrilled to have been selected as one of 20 new artists for the Historic Yellow Springs 50th Annual Exhibition from April 29- May 14 in Chester Springs,PA. I will be exhibiting 12 paintings in this beautiful setting with 200 artists, work abundantly hung salon style with amazing ease. If you have never seen this show, it is a gem worth visiting. And the drive through this section of Chester County is incomparable! Dates and link below. And last, but not least, I will return this spring to the Chester County Open Studio Tour as a guest of Malvern Arts Studio in Malvern, PA. There will be 6 of us at this location and we are already hard at work to make this a very fun weekend- May 20, 21.

FEATURED WORK: Daisy Chain

I have always thought that flower shows and gardens are about the most restorative places on earth. What happens there fills me with hope and energy. In an instant. Life. Birth. Regeneration. Color. Art in the landscape, emerging with surprises to delight around even corner. So the garden is my place to recover, restore and refresh. If I’m having a challenging time I take my worries there. And I inevitably find release to a place of new perspective and new hope. My day has just become more free, more expressed. I’m more thrilled to be alive.

Daisy Chain This mixed media piece, Daisy Chain, is an imaginary place but inspired by one day in a particularly abundant garden near my home. It is a place where I can always lose myself and find myself again. All fresh and green and ready to face the world. Available at my Aston Mills studio by appointment.

REVITALIZE, REFRESH, ENERGIZE WITH ART

When I was a kid I loved being at my grandmother's house for spring cleaning. This was serious, hands and knees business for her and her friend, Lucy Shade. It was a real top to bottom kind of cleaning that my Pennsylvania German family did. So fresh, so revitalized, renewed. I still remember the Coke breaks with those sweating green bottles. The whole scene was tradition.

Now years later I am doing this as part of a downsizing project at this most perfect time of year. And I can't help but think of the many of you who have told me about your experiences going through this or about your resizing and renovation projects to accommodate your growing family's needs. Thinking about my own experience now, I see that rather than dreading the process, I have embraced it as an opportunity to reinvent the space I live in. And I have found that making fine art a vital part of this process (acquiring, divesting or rotating placements) revives my spirit in countless ways.

Plan a studio visit with me. Let's talk about this! SAVE THE DATES SUMMARY Spring is abundantly full of opportunities for us to meet and for you to see some of the best art in the Region! These are the events where I will be showing my work. Hope to see you at every one of them!
