August 2022 Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

Well this has been a very busy season for my art business. My spring shows were so much fun- meeting lots of new people and reconnecting with old friends. It is actually one of my favorite things about this new career- connecting with people and talking art!

We Are Live!!!

The first big news of the quarter is that my new website went live this week! I’ve wanted to redesign it for some time and now it is real. My intent was to build my personality into it and to make it possible to know me and my art, what inspires me, what my art is intended to deliver to you. My marketing partner, Aubrey Fink, from Fink Creative has been a dream to work with so this collaborative labor of love has been a lot of fun, too!

I’d love to know what you think so take a look and please, let me hear from you. The site’s CONNECT page makes this really easy. Click here www.sallyrichardsart.com

Calling All Commissions

Believe it or not it is not too early to start the conversation about art you would like to create for a special occasion or the holidays. I recently completed a dog portrait of the lovely “Cricket” (for a thank you gift) and a single rose (for an important birthday). Pet portraits are my favorites because I love the challenge of capturing the essence, the spirit of your special animal. See some images of past pet commissions here. www.sallyrichardsart.com/commissions

Message me from my CONNECT page if you have a special someone or something to capture in paint! Can’t wait to get started. www.sallyrichardsart.com/connect

Inspired by Land & Sea

This land is my land and it has inspired abstract landscapes all summer!

In the late spring we finally made the trip back to the Netherlands (my husband Frans’ home) and as always there was plenty of inspiration. A short walk from our house in Amsterdam brings you to some of the most idyllic countryside, replete with mills and livestock and farms. Buy your fresh eggs from the trust-you-to-pay cage along the way and plan a coffee stop at a repurposed country estate to wrap up the delight of miles and miles of Dutch country splendor.

I also managed to take a few day trips in my own PA backyard that triggered so many memories of the farms and the open acres where I played endlessly as a kid. Something wakes me up when I see this countryside and it inspires a particularly playful painting session. Always. Last, we are excited to be heading off on a family vacation (aka the pets are coming, too) to coastal Maine in September and I trust that my sketch book will come home filled with possibilities for my fall studio sessions.

Stay on the lookout for how these trips translate into my new work and tune in on new inspirations by following me on Instagram. I post my most inspired moments there. www.instagram.com/sallyrichardsart

What's Up Next

Preparations are in full gear for the 25 Days of Minis Show/Sale again this year. It is a well curated group of small works offered by over 60 artists daily from December 1-25. We hope you can join us. Be the first to know by registering for emails that will keep you informed of what is happening and each day in December you can wake up to a link to the new selections. Perfect gift giving source! www.25daysofminis.com

To kick the program off we are once again having a one day Bonus Mini sale on September 28. So sign up for those emails now and mark your calendar to take advantage of the first offering of the season.

It’s that time again…..for another round of Studio Visits this fall so please mark your calendars if you are in the area at these times.

October is our season kickoff. Our studios are being reintroduced under a new name and new management. Heron Crest Studios are now Aston Mills Arts, reflecting the connection to the mills sector where we are located and an expanded purpose. Renovations are underway to offer expanded studio space, a beautiful gallery/event space and a classroom to accommodate art classes lead by resident artists. I recently doubled my own studio space with the ‘build it and they will come’ mantra in mind. Bigger is definitely better in this case.

October 9 Delco Arts Open Studio from 12-4p. Come see our new stuff!

November 12-13 Aston Mills Arts Open Studios 11-5p. We will also be open the following weekend but I will be back in Amsterdam for some family Thanksgiving celebrations!

Studio Visits ANYTIME I love having you come for a visit anytime. I make a great coffee and my fellow artists are up to some really exciting things. So a visit to me includes the opportunity to make new artist friends. Message me from the CONNECT page on my site or email me at sallyrichardsart@gmail.com to set up a time to play.

Looking forward to the possibility of seeing you this fall and as always, I thank you for your interest in and support of my art practice.

Best,
